Who We Are

Habitat for Humanity

GMHFH is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Affiliates contribute to the overarching goal of eliminating poverty by addressing the specific needs of the communities they serve. The mission and activities are, in a nutshell, building homes for those in need. GMHFH operates as a volunteer organization, only occasionally using paid staff, and at a deeply discounted rate at those times. Currently on the payroll are a part-time accountant and an AmeriCorps VISTA member. All other members of the organization work on a strictly volunteer basis. This means that there is very little overhead cost and most of the money can go towards building the homes.

Current Need

GMHFH is currently in the process of rebuilding our presence in the Greater Manchester community. To accomplish this goal the individual committees are increasing their efforts. The fundraising committee is planning monthly events, from small pancake breakfasts to major events such as the Hike for Humanity. The church relations committee is reaching out to area churches to build partnerships and to spread Habitat’s ministry. The family selection committee is reviewing applications to chose new partner families, and the construction committee is working on building the homes for those families at our 50 Hosley Street project. By increasing the community involvement of the organization through these and other activities, we have greater exposure to donors, volunteers, and prospective families – and we need responsible and driven members on the Volunteer Committee to make it work.

Volunteers Needed

A Volunteer Run Organization

Volunteers are integral to the mission of GMHFH. Volunteers serve on our board, perform the daily tasks to keep the organization running, participate in fundraising, and put in the muscle for construction.

Join the Volunteer Committee

Who makes a good Volunteer Committee member? Anyone who Committee members recruit, orient, manage, support, and thank all the volunteers working on site, in the office, and on our various committees. The committee is responsible for ensuring that the program is volunteer-friendly and conducive to a rewarding experience to maintain the highest possible level of participation.

Right now, we are looking for volunteers to serve in every role of the committee, from leadership to support positions. This is a perfect fit for anyone who enjoys meeting new people, enjoys public speaking, loves conversation, has good management skills, and believes in the value of volunteer service.

Why Volunteer?

For Yourself and For Others

We know that people volunteer for a variety of reasons, and we welcome you for whatever reasons you would like to join us. Past volunteers have come to us to:

  • Learn a new skill
  • Meet new people
  • Take on a challenge
  • Try something new
  • Get out of the house
  • Help out a friend
  • Repay past kindness from others
  • Feel good about helping out a good cause
  • Fulfill a requirement for school, work, etc.
  • Serve as an expression of faith
  • Further the mission of Habitat
  • Have fun!

No matter why they came to us in the first place, all our volunteers know that they have truly made a difference in the life of a needy family here in Greater Manchester. Whether working besides our partner family at the construction site, raising funds to contribute to the home, or working with our business and church partners to bring attention to our mission, every volunteer makes a huge impact.

Whatever your reason, we look forward to seeing you!
